Language Barriers
There are 32 tribal languages in Uganda. English is the official language but it is spoken here with an accent quite difficult for Americans to discern. In addition, grammar is quite formal and words mean different things. Because this was an English colony, words tend to follow English usage. The trunk of a car is the boot, its windshield is its windscreen. Then there is the use of idioms. When someone is going to adapt to whatever circumstance may arise, they will say "Let's play with our ears" (we would play it by ear). On the radio there are many languages and accents. Last night a ham in Tuscany wished a ham in Jeddah , Saudi Arabia Merry Christmas.
